Blister Repair???

I am in the process of repairing some blisters that range from 1/2 inch to 3 inches in diameter. On the 1/2 inch blisters there is no room for anything other than epoxy sealer and fairing material. The 3 inch ones range from 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch deep. The Interlux Boat Repairing guide only mentions the use of epoxy sealer 1000, water tight fairing material, and expoy 2000 interprotect. There is no mention of the need to add new fiberglass in the cavity. Could someone shed some light on this subject for me. Should I add fiberglass to the cavity before the sealer and fairing material?Thanks,Jerry Smith

I am writing an essay on blister repairs for the Gelcoat and Plastics forum (Fiberglass Tiliogy III).You whould grind the fiberglass down to where there is no milkiness (ie.e. the material is dy. Ideally use a moisture meter too. Rinse out with fresh water and dry thorougly.If the blisters are into the laminate, you HAVE to reinforce with glass fiber, because filler itself has little structural strength.YOu can use little pieces of mat soaked in epolxy resin, then fill and fair the outer areasOne thing gathered from a recent questionaire on this site is that use of an epoxy barrier coat is essential to stop return of the blisters.
