Bleeding M35
I've done this many times and it is difficult to get all the air out on the first try. Here are some things which have helped. When changing the Racor filter, shut off the fuel line which is accessible in the bottom of the port lazarette. Fill the filter and bulb with clean deisel before reinstalling. Fill the fuel filter with clean fuel before installing. Remember to turn the fuel line back on. Be careful with the handle - I broke one recently because I wasn't careful enough. With a buddy at the helm, have him/her turn the key to the second stop (starting) position and hold without pushing the starter button. This will engage the fuel pump. You will hear clicking. Ease off the bleed knob until the clicking slows almost to a stop. Tighten the bleed knob and release the key. You can try to start now. If after a few minutes, the engine stalls, repeat the procedure. After installing new filters or cleaning the Racor I always run the engine for at least a half hour to make sure that all the air gaps are out. If they are not, you can be assured that the engine will fail at the worst possible time. Before you reinstall the engine cover, make sure you know the location of the bleed knob as it can be accessed through the oil dipstick access door in the aft cabin. I have had to get at the knob there while underway and an air gap makes its presence known. Good luck.
