I added a racor filter/seperator this year and my engine has lost it's prime twice. today I went out sailing, engine ran fine at mooring then ran It for an hour motoring out, sailed for a couple hours in very rough weather decided to head home, engine started right up, furled sails started to head home then engine shut down. ran down below left key on and bled at ejector pump and engine started right up and made it home. In the 2 years I owned this boat this has never happed. When I installed new filter I blew into fuel line to make sure it was'nt clogged and i could here fuel bubbling. My mechanic thought I need a check valve on fuel line commming out of my tank

Check valve?

The last thing you need is any more resistance in your fuel line. Could be that with a new filter the spin on isn't snug or uneven leaving a place for air to re-enter the system. If sailing in rough water, could have picked up a lot of glop from the bottom of the fuel tank. Did you remove the screen from the bottom of the fuel pick up line? Some boat came with a screen there that gunks up. Was there air in the system when you bled it when you were coming home? If only fuel came out, and not air, you have a different problem than fuel. Are your wiring connections to your starter all OK, including the ground? Have you checked and/or replaced all the fuel lines? A recent post indicated a friend had "checked" his fuel lines, and many of the hose clamps on his older boat had simply disintegrated! The logical thought process is to "blame" the latest problem on the last "fix." Sometimes it's something else. Stu
