Changed primary and secondary fuel filters. I have an M25XP with an electric self-bleeding fuel pump. I turned key on, heard very rapid clicks from fuel pump that slowed down to slow click indicating bleeding had occured and attempted to start engine and wouldn't start. Went thro bleeding cycle several more times with electric fuel pump exhibiting a sustained period of rapid clicks that would slow to about normal then start rapid again.

It sems like an air lock but I don'r understand why the fuel pump doesn,t clear out the air.

Does any one have experience with this and do you have any suggestions?

Thanks

Bleeding

Here's how we do it: http://c34.org/bbs/index.php?topic=2884.0

Y0u didn't make any mention of the knurled knob, just the fuel pump, so try what's worked for us in the link and get back to us to see if it works for you.

Otherwise, try finding a small air leak. Check the nut on the top of your primary filter, make sure all hose clamps are tight, etc.

You bleed the fuel lines on the Universal M25XP by opening a knurrled knob on top of the engine near the front on the top left side (as you are facing the engine), (as I recall, it is about where the first fuel injector is located). This valve opens the fuel return and by-passes the injectors. Turn the switch to on and listen to the fuel pump clack away rapidly for a few minutes. It will not slow down as you have released all back pressure by opening this by-pass. Close the valve. The fuel pump should slow down dramatically. Start your engine.

If this doesn't work, it is because you probably got air into the high pressure side of the fuel system. To make this air go away, you will need to (slightly) loosen each fuel injector one at a time starting with the front one until fuel shows up around the base of the injector and no bubbles are visible. Re-tighten the injector and loosen the next one.

Next time you change your filters, remember the knurrled valve, and you should have absolutely no problem bleeding the fuel system.

No No No

PLEEZE don't EVER loosen the injectors on an M25 series engine. THERE IS NEVER A NEED TO DO THIS.

You evacuate the any other air by loosening the nut on the top of the secondary filter housing.

Thought this was covered in my link above.

It wasn't, just added it.

Thank you both for your help. I did get it all bled of air and the engine runs like a top. I used both the furled knob and the bleed nut on the secondary filter. I also did a bit of research and found the Universal diesel web site that has a very basic but useful manual that also describes the bleeding process.
