blanket for refr/freezer top

My refrigerator/freezer still needs to be defrosted twice a month. I requested a new freezer seal from Hunter, but they have yet to find the correct one for my boat.In the meantime, someone suggested covering the top with a blanket to keep out the air. Does this make sense? Should I use something other than an ordinary blanket? Thanks.

Frost build up

I to suffer from excessive frost build-up. I have a 1997 model 376.My problem is also the seals that do not work, I can feel the air escaping from around the fridge lid.My dealers solution was to install a domestic foam self adesive draft excluder. This does not work!!! The foam compresses and becomes inefective after 4 or 5 days. My dealer does not appear to be concerned with my problem. I have spoken to Chernev Yatchs of Missasauga Ontario. They are in the process of obtaining the correct seal for me.My contact is George Chernev @ 905 795 1985.Happy sailing Tony Wilcox.

Blanket

Putting a blanket over the top of your ice box lid will reduce the amount of warm moist air entering the ice box but this is not the solution for long term usage.The lids must be sealed to prevent the unwanted air from entering the box. Another area to check for air leaks is the location where the copper tubing exists the box, it should be sealed tight. If it is not you can seal it with plumbers putty.
