I used Armor-All on the toe rail in order to restore a deep black appearance. It was mildly successful. Does anyone know of a better product or procedure to achieve better results ?

Black toe rail

I tried a bunch of stuff, and actually ended up using Armor-All as well! Easy enough to apply that one will tend to do it more often...

Believe it or not....

I am assuming you are talking about the rub rail as opposed to toe rail. If not, disregard my comments. On our 33.5 we have a black rubber rub rail. We tried lots of things and found the best thing to be a silicone based vinyl/rubber dressing made by Amway to last the longest. It lasted a whole season whereas we found the Armor All and other formulas only lasted a month or so (especially if in salt water and bringing the rail under occasionally. Don't call me though, I am not a distributor. Doug

Toe Rail

I ended up painting mine black. I think its made of aluminum not vinyl or plastic, and that's why the Armor-All shine dosen't last long.

Rustoleum

The toe (or cam as some call it) rail is aluminum and one that will lose it's black color over time. In fact, my hatches have lost the same color on my 1981 Hunter 36. I was told by a respected repairman to mask of the parts I want to paint and use Black Matte Rustoleum. This paint adheres well to metal and should last. Going to be a job masking around all the stanchions but from what I hear the last thing you want to do is remove this rail unless you seriously need to re-bed it. Toby
