Black hull streaks from rain runoff

Anyone have a suggestion for AVOIDING those nasty black mark vertical streaks (on the hull sides) that are caused by rain runoff? On Hunters it seems to be more obvious because there are 4 water runoffs along the lenght of the hull (ie 4 black vertical streaks per hull side). The rain water runs over the rub rail right down the sides of the hull. Is there any way to divert the rain water over the rub rail and into bay/ocean water? Any suggestions?

Streaker

Rob, To answer your question, no I haven't found a way to prevent them, however, when they get bad enough to really irritate me, I find a good scrubbing with a soft bristle brush, Boat Soap, and maybe a little 409 cleaner, does a pretty fair job of cleaning them off. I also find that if I keep the hull waxed, the job of cleaning these streaks is not quite as bad. I know I haven't answered your question directly, but this is the best solution I could come up with. Streaks

I've found that streaks appear where I have skipped areas when I wax the hull, so it seems that a good coat of wax helps to prevent streaks. But when you have streaks, anything that removes them also removes the surrounding wax, so it's best to apply some more wax after removing streaks.

Spay Away

Spray away removes the black streaks, and the rub rail gunk too! best all purpose cleaner we've found. Best prevention is a great wax job. In spring when I wax the hull gets 2 coats except where the deck drains, there I put on four or five, and one more during mid season, and thats keeps the black streaks to a minimum. You think Hunters are bad, you should see the Beneteau's with metal toe rails, they have more black dtreaks than a tiger's back! :))) Bob

Meguire's 50 Cleaner/Wax

I use Maguire's 50 cleaner/wax to wax the hull on my '88 Legend 37 in the spring. The streaks appear once in a while, depending on how much rain, but more Maguire's removes them pretty easily. And I have aluminum toe rails, too!

Hull Streaks

Hi, Applicable to all models with the new style PVC rub rail and which suffer black streaks on the hull due to rain dribbling down from the scuppers. I stuck a foot long length of teak triangular form under the rub rail just below the openings in the toe rail. now water - and muck - runs over the rub rail and drips off the teak strips. They only need to be 3/8" in section and held in place with rubber based Evostick. In 2 years the problem has been completely solved. Regards

Black streeks

I cut out clear plastic corner molding from a hardwear store, and mounted it to the outside edge of my rub rail.this acts as a drip molding, our freinds with power boats use this arangement.,
