Swallows! Birds on the masthead, birds on the spreaders, birds spinning on the Windex and anemometer. BIRD CRAP EVERYWHERE. We have about 3 months of swallows invading our shores. Does anyone have a fix for us?? Owls-no way they use them for a roost. Snakes-more places to park and poop. Spinners, shiny stuff-no good. I have seen them all. So have our Swallows. What have you tried that works. (sorry no shooting)

One Bird Solution That Works for Me

is bird repellant, but applied sparingly. Visit the related link. The two thumbnails show the birds at the masthead, two roosting on a device that was supposed to keep them away. Enlarge the thumbnails. Does your deck look like the photo at right? For two years, now, my bird problem has been reduced by 90%. I still get a little from starlings and blackbirds roosting on the standing rigging. I apply it !!sparingly!! at the masthead. Keep it away from moving parts such as the windex and wind machine. It will gum them up. Apply a small beed to each spreader, but away from where you would stand in going up the mast. Be very careful not to apply it anyplace that comes in contact with a sail! Shore birds, pelicans and gulls are no problem, as they do not roost aloft. Ospreys sometime roost on the windex but haven't broken it yet. Anyways shore birds crap is not dark and does not stain the deck. Do a mouseover on the thumbnails for more details. I haven't killed any birds yet! Sam

Solution that works

Coneys Marine in Huntington, NY sells bird-x spikes that go on the spreaders & masthead. They installed them when I bought the boat & I never had birds on my boat

Cover the boat

Two heavy-duty tarps, one for the bow and one from the mast back, will do the job. Use bungy cords and clasps. Saves the wax job too.
