For reasons I can't fathom, birds (probably sea gulls) have been using my boat for bombing practice of late. Hasn't happened earlier in the season. Each time I go to the boat, I've had to spend nearly two hours trying (only partially successfully) to get rid of hundreds of slpotches of staining purple poop. So far, I've tried a variety of products with only mediocre success. The abrasive liguid 'SofScrub'seems to be the best, but I'm reluctant to use it as often as seems needed. What have others used to clean up this crap?

We have the same problem and it is worse when the Mulberry trees are fruiting. (The purple bird poop turns brown in the sun.) Soft Scrub with Bleach (green label) is the best product I've found. It is mildly abrasive depending on your elbow grease but mainly it's the bleach that does the work. But your knees still get a workout. I've found that frequent waxing (carnuba) makes clean up much, much easier. We had barn swallows nesting in the end of the boom until I plugged it with a large sponge (the old sponge trick!) Now they just sit on the life lines and poop. --Buddy Richardson, Cowardly Lion H28

Same thing this time of year in the Northeast. All bird have been eating are berries and like nice white surfaces to dump on. It does seem that the like to go into the rigging at this time, also. Soft scrub seems to work the best. Altnough it's abrasive, it really doesn't destroy the surface. It must remove any wax, though,

We are in Deale, too
and this weekend was the first time we got the purple pooh as well. We've been down just about every weekend since Labor Day and this was the first time we had it. I used Magic Eraser and it came right off - with just a little elbow grease. Fortunately they come four to a package and are inexpensive, some where around two dollars. Hope I don't see it next weekend....
