Don't match! A few threads back I asked what could be used to get the bird poop off my non-skid deck. This was not ordinary poop, it was the industrial kind. The stuff that legends are made by. Anyway, it was recommended that Mr. Clean Magic Erasure would do the trick. OK, so I go down to the boat today to clean the deck and I thought it was working well. When the deck dried, the poop remained. I even used one of those green scrubbing pads and it did nothing. I plead with the general boating community, what can I use to get the white stains off my deck? I have some Woody Wax coming but I don't want to apply that until the deck is spotless. Maybe 409? Maybe vinegar mixed with baking power? Acetone (j/k)? Any help please.

Simple Green

You might try Simple Green, and let it sit for a while. I usually have the best luck spraying it on before doing anything else, letting it sit, them washing it off with a soft brush. I just put Woody Wax on last week, and if today was any indication, removing the bird stuff was about 90% easier.

I've been in Oceanside harbor Brian, you

got an industrial size problem. I saw an old man knocked over when hit by Heron crap out of one of the trees by JR. Anyway, I've used Bon Ami and Simple Green (diluted in spray bottle) with a stiff bristle brush with pretty good results. The white crap aint as bad as the red crap from the birds eating from the dumpster at the mexican restaurant, that stuff stains if you don't get it quick.

Try...

using Starbrite Deck Cleaner. Works great on the non-skid poop mess caused by our local swallows. Get it at Walmart for under $5. West Marine wants over $11.

Liquid Soft Scrub with Bleach

It's basically the liquid version of Bon Ami and works well on stains. Also, there are sailors on the Catalina 250 site that swear by Ultra Bright toothpaste for bird poop stains.

Here's your ticket!!!

We have two parrots at home. My wife uses a product called Poop Off, a non-toxic and biogradable liquid, to clean their cages. It works really great. She orders it from a place called Doctor's Foster and Smith....the phone number is 800-443-7760. She swears by it... Let us know... Dick

Serious

The C250 forum people were talking about it. One person recommended it and then the other person went and tried it. He reported back that it worked! I'm going to give it a try. They use a stiff bristle brush, or a toothbrush to scrub it. They did advise not to mix up the bird poop brush with your personal toothbrush. Duh! Here is the link to the forum: http://www.catalina-capri-25s.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=12676

Bird Poop

I've had luck geting rid of bird poop a number of ways, including using all the cleaners mentioned below. I guess that Soft Scrub with a tooth brush or bristle brush worked best. I also use an old Crest battery powered "SpinBrush" for the non-skid. But when I really get bombed, I drag out the heavy artillery: an electric power washer that produces about 1750 psi pressure. It REALLY cleans and you've got to be very careful about using it anywhere near any caulking or seams as it will clean those out, too. As with any power washer, best to practice angles and distances to the target on something other than the boat before firing one up at your topsides or non-skid.

OK, how does one apply the Ultra Bright?

Does one put it on the brush as one would a toothbrush? Then scrub it into the deck? How much does one apply? These may seem like silly questions, but if too much is applied, could it do something to the deck that I will regret later on?

Floss first

I'd put it on the stain and leave it for a minute and then brush. That is what I do with the soft scrub. C'mon Brian. Go do it and post the results!

I have business travel this week and will not get back to the boat until the weekend. So, I will let you know how it goes next Saturday. Promise.

Give laundry detergent a try

We have used Soft Scrub w/ bleach, Simple Green, household degreasers, dish detergents, and laundry detergents. On a cost and efficincy basis, spread either laundry or dish detergent on the deck, let is sit for 15-30 minutes, scrub the deck with a brush, and rinse the with water.

Skip the Baking Powder...

...and try Baking SODA. That might do the trick! Good Luck!

Absolutely Soft Scrub w/ Bleach

We had super duper poop from seagulls eating blackberries. I squirted the Soft Scrub on each stain and lightly smeared it around with a scrub sponge, and let it sit for about 15 minutes. I rinsed with the hose and everything was fine.
