Bird Crap on the Cockpit

I have a 22' Catalina moored in a mooring field off Crystal Beach Fl. I have a real problem with sea gulls and other birds sitting on the boat and crapping. When I clean the boat the drains get plugged in the cockpit, so I need to clean the drain pipe which is a pain.

I thought I would intall a canvas cover with snaps over the cockpit.

Four Questions? Will this work, has anyone tried this,does anyone have any othger ideas and does anyone have the dimensions of a 22' 1986 Catalina cockpit.

I had a real problem with the cormorants on Cape Cod. Found "Bird Spikes" and installed them on the spreaders. They are strips of plastic about 2' long, with pieces of stiff wire sticking up at an angle. The strips are secured on the spreaders with RTV or similar adhesive. They have been very effective at keeping birds off the rigging. I lost one strip in a 55 knot gust while at anchor, and the rest of them are getting old and brittle. Can't seem to find new ones at any of the marine stores I've been to lately. Maybe someone has seen them somewhere?

I suggest you get one of those inflatable scare crows they are snakes you can find them online or at west marine. they keep the birds away
