Has any one heard anything about the use of vegitable oil in a Yanmar? I have seen some guy who has converted a Diesel car to run on vegitable oil and even Myth Busters. I would love to smell french fries instead of the stink of Diesel when I motor out in the morning.

I have used it and it is fine.

I have used Bio in my Yanmar and never noticed any difference. If you live in a cold climate you may have problems with starting, but for most of us using the stuff during the summer months there is no problem. If you want to check out the Yanmar site, they may not recommend it, but they did sponser a round the world trip on a couple of Yanmar diesel outboards.

Yanmar says No

The following is a quote from the Yanmar website, in their Questions and Answers section. Is it possible to run Yanmar engines with Bio-diesel (RME)? No, we strongly disapprove and it can also be of influence on your warranty.

Well, us gearheads are then compelled to ask;

why not? Sorry, I couldn't get the link to work. Hope it isn't just another case of a company fearing changes and protecting themselves from possible warranty liability. The bio-diesel I've tried is 20-80%. Works great in my Yanmar.

I will not use it in ours for a variety of reasons

A local bus diesel head mechanic told me the industry has not established quality standard yet. Gelling in colder climes has been a major problem and different quality products will gel at different temps. Our Wallas furnace maker says no, too. It will burn but not ignite. So, for now I'm sticking with the regular stuff. Terry
