bimini

hello

I bought my bimini on e-bay... you have to know the dimensions of your cockpit and boom height... I bought mine from e-bay seller 'xcenters'... he has all the colors, sizes, and models... I bought mine for $119 on e-bay... it works wonderful, and goes under my boom.... my son cannot stand up full height under mine... but I only use it when I am sitting at anchor or fishing... when sailing, I put it back and put the cover on it... it came with the zipper cover too... I got the one with dimensions of 72 x 36 x 79-84... and I got it in blue about the same color as my boat...

sincerely

Do you have any pictures of yours trainmanjess? I've been looking at a solution for shade myself, but most of the bimini's I see dont look like they really cover very much of the cockpit, and wouldn't work very well with my combination of end boom sheeting and hardware layout.

I've actually been thinking about fabricating my own supports off the rear rail, and the lifeline stanchions at the cabin. Would give me cover over most of the cockpit, with the exception of the most aft section under the main sheet. I also want something I can use while sailing. It would be nice to have shade when spending the whole day out on the water.

Bug, my Bimini came from a vendor on eBay that makes them for Macs. I have end boom sheeting, you just position it forward to clear sheats, which works out nice as you can shade the hatch area. Use a tiller extension to keep the helmsman in the shade sometimes. I mounted mine with the adjustable legs to the rear, so I can lower it to provide shade in the cockpit when the sun is directly behind (my boat faces west in the slip and the rising sun in the morning always used to shine down the hatchway). In this video you can get some good views of the Bimini. It came with plastic deck fittings which I replaced with stainless ones from (http://www.marinepartdepot.com/newstststdeh.html) and used the thumb screws that came with it.

Here is a neat little mod that I added to the Mac 25 bimini. It will increase head room by about 18". You have to raise the boom with a topping lift and only used in the extended position when anchored.

Here is link to vendor.

Can you take some pictures of your placement and the height width measurements? I have an 87 M25, and am struggling to figure that out...

Sorry, I'm spatially challenged.

Mine was on a 2' track mounted on the horizontal surface on the side of the gunnnels.

Thanks for the info. I think having all the supports right in the middle of the cockpit would drive be absolutely crazy though. That's right where I like to get on and off the boat at the dock, and it still doesn't cover as much area as I'd like. I still need to do a little measuring, but I have an idea for a design I think will work a lot better for me, and wont have a lot of extra junk in the way. Should be able to beat the price too since I'll be building it myself. One of the fringe benefits of having a full metal working shop in the back yard. :D

hello stinkbug

I took some pictures of the bimini open... also I have enclosed one of it closed with the cover on it... the one I got covers my cockpit up to about 1 foot from the cabin back... I mounted it this way so it would not interfere with my mainsheet control and traveler... my mainsheet and traveler are fastened just behind the cabin in the cockpit... when I open the bimini it is below my boom and does not interfere with it... I am 5-6, and can stand up straight under it, but my head does brush the cross bars of the bimini... I use it mainly when I am at anchor or fishing... when I am sailing, I close it up out of the way so I can see my mainsail, and watch the telltails.... the model I got came with both the mounts for side or top mount on the cockpit railing area... I mounted it on the outer side of the cockpit above the rubrail...

sincerely
Jess
