I want to have a bimini instaled on my boat. The canvas man says that to do it so that the hardware folds up neatly it would interfer with the headsail winch .The winch would not be able to turn 360 degrees since it would hit the hardware. It would instead have to ratcheded back and forth. Anyone have any ideas on how to install it so that the barts fold up together and the winch is clear? Thanks Bob

I moved the base.....

for the bimini mount strap on my 31 so as to have 360 degrees for the winch handle. Don't know your set up so perhaps it is more complicated on your boat.

I use shorter winch handles....

I've got a 1980 33, and here in New Orleans we have to sail with bimini in the summer....I had a problem with the handles for the Lewmar 40's that are mounted in the usual spot hitting the bimini support, so I switched to shorter (10") handles...they are two speed winches, so really didn't lose much since I don't race....solved the problem for me....

Bimini Position

Bob, I have installed a 54" High by 6' long by 84" wide bimini on my H30. I moved the deck mount aft a few inches to avoid the problem you are describing. In addition, a friend with a H37 suggested to move aft to cover that aft rail and extend aft by 6 more inches. The reason we did this was to optimize the coverage we get over the helm. In other words, we are trying to keep the rain and sun off of our already rednecks. The Bimini does not interfere with our winches.
