I have a 1977 Hunter 30 with the mainsheet, pulleys & traveller located right in front of the entry hatch. This configuration doesn't leave much room for a bimini top Anyone have any good ideas about how to put on a bimini top on one of these boats, without having to move the mainsheet & traveller? Or am I just stuck with only being able to cover the back 1/2 of the cockpit with the top, leaving half my passengers exposed to sun?

Not 50% but probably 75%

I have the same configuration and my bimini works great. Hunter 25 1981. You cann't get 100% coverage but it is close to 80% and so close you won't notice the difference. The sun is seldom directly overhead so most of the time the angle of the sun determines how much shade you get. Mine used a regular bimini purchased from Overtons and modified with a zipper to go around the backstay. Works great and I would not be without it.

My old 28.5...

had the same mainsheet/traveller configuration and my bimini coverage was great. One suggestion, go to Yachtworld and/or classifieds on this site and look at all the Hunters like yours for sale...you should find some with biminis that might give you ideas on what is possible. See link below for what I'm talking about!

Have one in our harbor.

Frank: We have a H30 in our harbor with a bimini that was ordered from the HOW store. It has pockets for the split backstay (so most of the cockpit is covered). If you add a dodger with removable windows you will have most of the cockpit covered and then you can install the windows once the weather turns cool to extend your sailing season.

I had the same problem

I used to own a 1980 33 with the same set up. I opted to move the traveler to the cabin top just forward of the Bimini. I made a couple of towers so entry way hatch would slide under it. It worked great. I am just suprised that more people have not done it. I ran the main sheet to the mast and brought it back with some deck organizers. All my lines ended up at the cockpit. It made life so much easier!
