Bimini Size

I bought a Hunter 30' this winter. It is still covered, and I need the dimensions for a bimini. I intend to have a bimini that allows the captain (me) to stand while behind the steering wheel. The bimini will be aft of the boom, and probably will need to allow the stays to pass through it. Has anyone done this before and have the dimensions handy(HxWxL)? Or pictures? Any suggestions on how to do it cheaper. My current quote is $800. I thought it would be best to attach the bimini to the top of the rails, and modify it to allow the stays to pass through it. This will keep the cockpit open and provide some shade too. Has anyone done this before? Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks

Bimni

I have a Hunter 31 and had a dodger and bimni made last summer. The Bimni is mounted on stainless steel supports mounted to the hull about 18" or so to the rear of the winches. It stands independently. I do stand under it behind the wheel. I have also had a zip in clear connector made to join it to the dodger Which I only install in very foul weather. I have also had sides and a back made, which has the ability to make a second "cabin" on the stern. Again it's only used in foul weather but is particularily good when you're tied up at some spot for the weekend and you're faced with rain during some or all of your stay. The whole unit cost about $2000.00 Cdn.

Mounted the bimini the forward corner of the stern rails. We have a single backstay, and the zippered slot to go around it is just right. But measuring the actual dimensions of your boat is critical. You should wait until you can get aboard, with the boom up, unless another owner has what you need. Bought the bimini on this site, and we were very hapy with their srvice, and willingness to work with us. David Lady Lillie

Our 1978 Hunter 30

We have a full bimini on board our Hunter 39. It zips to the dodger with a connecting section. You can browse some of the pics of our boat on the site I made for it. I do not have the dimensions but might get up to the boat next week.

Photo editing software.

Ian: If you have any photo editing software on your computer you can usually reduce the size. There is usually an option to 'RESIZE' that should get the photo small enough to post. If you look around on the net you may be able to get some type of freebee too.

Pictures.

The Related Link is to the thread that Ian mentioned. Two of my postings in that thread include pictures. These are of a bimini made from a Sailrite kit. Because of the slope of the railings on the pushpit I elected to mount the full bimini frame on the toerail. I drilled and tapped for machine screws in order to get the most width. If my railings had been more perpendicular and farther forward I might have mounted the frame to the railing. But you can read all about that on the other thread. If the Link does not work then just do a search in Forum Archives with " boom height bimini".
