I just purchased an H240 and was interested in hearing (and seeing if you have photos)about installing a bimini on an H240. Mine has catbird seats. I assume the six footer is about as big as you can go with interfering with the boom. Also, how do you stow it when unopened. Thanks, Marc Bruner (a new 240 owner)

h240 bimini

Hi Marc, if you check the archives you will find lots of opinions on the bimini. We love ours and can't imagine being without in south Fl. We sail with the bimini both covered and open. As long as you understand the limitations of your equipment and stay within there intended uses you will be happy. Carl h240 Relentless

bimini 240 plus minus

I have a 6' binimi and its pluses are more than its minuses. I have had it up in gust 20 plus and it has not even looked like it was under load. On a hot sun day and low wind day it is a must, or even hot and windy. I have it in every possible position, and have bought the plastic screws that you can screw and unscrew by hand (connecting the bottom of the posts to the boat mounting brackets). Some days I have it stowed in the upright position and lean against it while standing and sailing (great back rest) , great thing is that you can tack and still have room as you stand back as the boom zooms by your nose. If you have and use the rail seats, my bar stood of choice then I usually undo the four screw and slide the bimini under the seats and then I just do up the front screws to secure it. It is worth the few minutes of effort for the un interupted view. Sorry no photo electronically deficient. I followed the instructions and the measurements and it worked out, go figure.

The responses are good. The biggest thing is shade from the sun and in Florida, I think that would be important. I would strongly suggest Ameriseam and if you decide to get one, one place to check is the HOW chandlrey. I remember intorducing Ameriseam to Hunter years ago and still use them today as I am quite pleased with their product. Crazy Dave Condon

Bimini is one of the 3 must haves

I ordered mine with the boat. It lays flat with the boot on just at or a little inside the arc of the transom at the foot of the stern rail seats. When it is up and you are sitting on the stern rail seats, you are situated above the bimini. The forward edge of the bimini is a couple of feet aft of the hatch and bulkheads. On cool days it is easily removed (only one screw on each of the 2 mounts) and stored below in the aft cabin. Joe

I have a customer bimini on my 240. It is perfect and I spent alot of effort to ensure it was sized to see over the top in the stern seats yet allow for plenty of headroom when seated below. I also added a "more forward" mainsheet attachment point on the boom to allow for an appoximate extra foot of bimini when it is in use. It stows in a cover hinged to lie paralell with the stern railing. Since you live in FL, and if St. Pete is near to you, you are welcome to copy the dimensions from my boat in downtown St. Pete. Just let me know.
