Bimini on a C27

I would like to install a bimini on our 1979 C27. It appears that the traveler and main sheets will interfear with this. The boom height is also a problem. I am 6'-2" tall, so any reduction in height would be significant. Does the traveler need to be moved to the cabin deck? Can the boom be raised? Thanks in advance for your comments,Brunson

Move the traveler

I've contemplated a bimini or dodger too. A dodger would be most logical cuz of the weather and traveler placement. I don't think you could install a bimini with the current end-boom sheeting system.LaDonna

Yes and yes

I have a cabintop traveler and bimini, with about 5'10" of headroom under the bimini (I'm 6', so i rub, but it's less of a pain than moving the boom up the mast and recutting sails would be). Sitting down and at the dock the bimini is wonderful.

Measure It

I am about to put one on as well. The guy across the dock from me has one on his C-27 with the traveler in the original position. His bimini sits forward and does not cover the aft 25% of the cockpit. Not a bad solution for the short term.For those of you that have moved the travleler, what mods were necessary, and how do you like the traveler in its new position? Is it bulky, or more comfortable? Do the sheets tangle? Does the top of the cabin need to be re-enforced before you install the traveler onto it?Thanks for your help!Rob

forward and aft bimini

My 1974 27C had a forward bimini and I need to watch cost and wanted full coverage.I went to a marine salvage yard and purchased all the pieces for an aft bimini.Which took alot of measuring and looking ! But it only cost me $30.00 for the frame.I then researched making bimini's and purchased about $100 worth of Top Gun to make both.I then adding a connect piece to zipper in when not under sail. I also added a zipper to the forward bimini forward edge so I can later add a dodger. I used Top Gun only because of the cost and I wasn't sure what kind of a job I'd be able to do. It has held up great now for three years.Alot of people do not have good things to say about it but it does come with a warranty . sunbrella About $13.00 yd Top Gun $8.00 yd Hope this give you other ideas. good luck.
