I recently purchased a 1987 Hunter 37, and would like to add a bimini. I spoke with Genco who have made three of them over the years, and he told me (thankfully) that because of the boom height and its' length, the bimini would only be 5'4" high measured from the cockpit sole! He recommended cutting the mainsail at an angle from the mast back to give the extra height I wish (6'4"). Has anyone ever done this, or does anyone have any other ideas. Thanks in advance! Hunter 37

Hi Wilf, I own a 1988 Legend 37. Several years ago, we added a full cockpit enclosure. To increase the height in the cockpit, my sailmaker cut the front edge off of the mainsail and reattached the slides and a new headboard. Having such a tall rig with a large mainsail, I do not miss the sail area that was cut off. Good luck, Bob

flatten Reef

I have a 37c, same problem as you. What I did was have my sail maker install a flatten reef. He installed a cringle about one foot above the clew on the mainsail leech, I attached a line to the boom ran it thru the cringle to a turning block on the opposite side of the boom, ran the line forward to a cam cleat. By pulling the line I raise the aft end of the boom the One foot that I needed. Hope this helps. Bill
