Bimini for Hunter 26.5

I am considering buying an H-26.5 that does not have a bimini, yet the owners site lists them for sale for this model. Given the relative lowness of the boom (looks like perhaps 5 ft off the cockpit floor), and its proximity to the split back stays, it seems that a bimini (1) could not fit under the boom at all; or (2) if you mounted one aft of the boom it would only cover a foot or two and not be very practical. If any current owners have a bimini on their H-26.5, I'd love to see a picture of it or get an idea of how they mounted it, and how much protection they get from the sun. Any thoughts on this?

Bimini for 26.5

I recently purchased a 26.5, and I am having the same questions as yourself regarding boom height. Some Hunter owners contacted me when I posted a similar forum, and I have some photos I can pass along to you if you email me your email address. The photo Im sending was of an owner who raised where the boom attaches to the mast up about a foot. This gives almost standup headroom for a bimini.

Mine just fits under the boom

Bought it from HOW last year. Not quite as much headroom as I'd like, I'm 6'3", but otherwise a nice addition to the boat. If it ever stops snowing here I'll unwrap my boat and take a picture. I'm also interested in what other 26.5 owners have done with their boats. Doesn't seem to be many around. Contact me if you want to compare notes. gsbollin@netscape.net Glenn WindWisp 26.5 Hunter

Bimini for H-26.5

I note in your reply that you are 6'2" tall. It appeared from you reply that you could stand under your bimini, yet the boom on this boat is quite low (I estimate around 5 ft from the cockpit floor). I also got some info from the maker of the bimini who states the bimini does, in fact, get mounted under the boom. All this suggests there is onl sitting head room in the cockpit when the bimini is deployed? Is that right?

Probably better than 5'6" on my boat

I can't stand up straight. Sorry if my response was misleading. If you raise the boom to gain clearance how will that affect sail shape? Won't you have to reef the main in order to fully raise the sail? Glenn WindWisp 26.5 Hunter

26.5 Bimini

I just submitted pictures of our Bimini on the How Forum. They also show in photos for the 26.5 under the model tab.
