2 Biminis for 26

There appear to be two biminis available for the 26 in the chandlery. One is the "rail mount" version. Provides 6' of coverage and costs $499. The other is the "pre-measured" and it actually comes in a few flavors, depending on whether or not you have stern rail seats and whether you want 3.5' of coverage or 7' (but must move mainsheet). $312 and $477 respectively. The rail mount version interests me. Anyone have one? Ron Mehringer s/v Hydro-Therapy

Have the full coverage one off this site

I bought the one for the Hunter 26 off this site. The installation was very easy you just need to deside if it should fold up in front of the mast crutch or behind when trailering. I chose behind I don't trailer much now and I take the crutch off when not using it. You do need to move the bail for the mainsheet forward when you use the bimini. I don't see it as a problem. It sails well up to 15 knots. Then it does effect performance and makes for a wild ride. If you like that sort of thing keep it up. I did notice that after about a year I developed a gel coat crack at one of the screws that runs up the gunnel. I plan to fix that this winter with the other cosmetic cracks. Bottom line we would not sail very much in the heat of the delta without the bimini. It was one of those purchases I cringed at for cost at the time but sat back and said later why didn't I do this earlier. Its make the boat outstanding on the hook also it covers the whole cockpit. My slip mates cook and I sit in the shade and smile. The rail mounted bimini is only for the 260 I think and it doesn't cover as much area. The rail on the 260 is a lot higher than the 26. Call Bly and see will let you know. Good luck and stay cool. Carl S/V Wind Shadow

2nd try - bimini

We added the premeasured bimini that attaches to the rail seats. The HOW Chandlery said it was designed for the Hunter 26, but it appears to be for the Hunter 260. We kept it & simply attached it to the 2nd level of the seats. As a result, the bimini fits under the boom much better than if it were in the higher position.

2003 H260

I just bought my new Hunter and after waiting several weeks for the Backordered Bemini, I received it this last weekend It covers the whole cockpit, and looks great. The only problem I had was figuring out how it went together. There was no instructions that came with it, not even a picture. I looked at other boats in my marina and all their's were different. I do think it is a good investment especially if you live down south like I do in 100 degrees temperture.

Bimini's are great

Our 1996 H26 came with a bimini I suspect was installed by the previous owner. We have really loved it. Even in Michigan it is great to have and we almost always have it up while sailing during the day. It really makes an enormous difference in the enjoyability of the boat. I close it up when we aren't using the boat but when we are staying on the boat it is left open the entire time. It is probably our favorite option. The only thing I don't like about it is that if folds down on top of the stern rails when lowered. I am adding a couple more supports with a quick release so that the rear pole won't move when it is closed up. The quick release will allow me to fold it all the way back for trailering.
