I am looking for a Bimini for an '87 Hunter28.5, or something that we can use to cover the cockpit when we're on the water. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Bimini

I found a bimini for my '79 H30 through Overton's. I bought binding and zippers from Sailrite to adapt it to fit around the backstay. It is a Sunbrella Bimini with aluminum tubing and has held up to a couple of nor'easters we had. The wife and I love it especially now that summer is at its most intense here in eastern North Carolina. The total cost of the project was about $350. Both Overton's and Sailrite have web sites.

Custom Bimini

If you want a Bimini that actually fits a 28.5 full 7' width and 6'; front to back, including zippers around the split backstay, three stainless steel tubing supports hinged off the stern pulpit to keep you winches clear, and possibly a 12"x12" clear plastic sail trim window with velcrow attacjed cover, and a Bimini Boot (cover); you might want to get a quote from North Sails Annapolis. You may also need to have the mainsail foot re-cut 8-10inches higher at the clew in order to sail with the Bimini up and have 6'+ headroom. H28.5 Bimini

The H28.5 is a great boat and even better on the Bay with a bimini. Due to the split backstays and boom configuration, however, you probably ought to have one made specifically for your boat. Most any full service loft or canvas shop can do this and would probably have to come to your boat to take measurements. I recommend stainless rather than aluminum frames/bows and have it installed as close to the rails as possible. A good quality bimini, with stainless bows and sunbrella material will probably run around $1,100-$1,200 and it is well worth it to avoid baking in the summer sun here.

Get on ebay and do a search for sunbrella. On of the sellers builds custom biminis starting around $275.
