I recently bought a 1988 Hunter 30 and I am interested in getting a Bimini for it. I am not sure if I should get a Rail Mount Bimini, which basically shades the helm, or get one that covers the cock pit. The rail mount appears to be small, but more expensive than the larger one. Anyone have an insight in which to choose?

I have the same boat, and would go with the coaming mount just for the amount of cockpit covered. The only question I would have is how much headroom you will end up with while sailing. My boom is low enough that I doubt I would be able to stand at the helm with the bimini up and compete a tack without it hitting the bimini.

So bcollis, I take it you dont have one. I was thinking the larger also. I will have to call Hunter and see if they have pictures/or a recommendation. Kevin B.

Not yet, but maybe sometime soon. I've only see one other 88 H30 with a bimini, and the owner looked to be around 5ft 8, and had about an inch of headroom at the helm. I'd like something taller, but I don't want to have to recut the main, or take it down at every tack.

Let me know what you come up with. Thanks!

Brian
