I have a 89 Hunter 27 and I would like to add a bimini to it. - Does anybody have any experience, suggestions, comments about specific brands? - Will I need to make any modifications to boom/main sail in order to raise it a little bit? Is it a problem with the backstay? - Does the bimini restricts access to/from the cockpit to the front of the boat? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Luis Oliveira

Bimini on this site

Just go to the bimini offer on this site. They have a couple of solutions that will work for you. We bought a rail mounted bimini for our '77 h27 last winter and were very happy with the service from this site, and from Island Nautical who made the bimini. Since our mainsheet runs from the end of the boom to the aft end of the cockpit, we hade some special requirements, and they worked with us to figure out the solution - and at a very reasonable price. Bimini

Here is my solution. It is aft of the boom, and allows 6' of height in the cockpit. It provides shade over 50% of the cockpit. The dodger adds some shade, and sometimes the sail, so enough shade is provided without obstructing ones sailing. I did this on my hunter 30. Accurate Canvas in MA custom installed this for me -$745. In the long run - I think adding the bimini was a good investment.

bimini on my 1993 h27

I have attached a photo of my bimini on a model just like yours. We really like it. No modifications were needed. The only thing is I have to ease the main sheet if I have it sheeted in tight. Otherwise the boom drags across the bimini on a tack.

Bimini for Hunter 27

Ward: Thanks for your reply. It looks great. A couple of questions: - How much clearance do you have on the cockpit, under the bimini? - Did you have to make any modifications to sail and/or boom? - Does it hit your backstay? - Who was the manufacturer? If you prefer, you can email me directly at Loliveira@houston.rr.com. Thank you, Luis

Particulars on Bimini

Luis, There is nearly 6 ft. clearance under the bimini in the cockpit. No modifications were made to the boom or main sail There is a small amount of padding on the backstay because it does rub against it. causes no problems though I don't know the manufacturer. It came with the boat which I bought used. Take a look at the ones on this site. I think they would meet your needs Let me know if I can be of further help Ward
