Bimini Bump Up

"Her Diamond Ring" recently commented on the boom rubbing on the bimini. "Top Secret" had a similar problem. The sailmaker put an extra grommet about 6" up on the leach of the main (like a leach reefing grommet). The sail can be cinched up (works like a flattening reef) and pulls the aft end of the boom up an off the bimini. It was further suggested that the sail be recut to have the same affect. The boom would then naturally angle upwards at the aft end. A third suggestion was to remove the boom fitting from the mast and raise it 6 inches-thus the boom stays parallel, but is 6 inches higher on both ends. I think all of these are possible, it's just a question of which one fits your budget and sailing style. (I put in the flattening reef-and don't ask me how much difference it made in point of sail, speed, etc) But it does work for a nice cruise under the bimini!
