I have to replace the leather chafe protectors on both my Dodger and my Bimini. Should I consider another product other than leather that might last longer of wear better. It appears that the leather suffered the results of the sun and weather more than actual wear. Thanks...

How long has the chafe protection lasted.

I would suggest that you use leather again. Florida is rough on vinyl.

I changed to a marine vinyl after my leather dodger panel shrunk and tore in five. It's been on for two, and so far, so good. Steve's point is a good one though. Ask some professionals to give you their opinion too. So far, vinyl is working OK for me.

The canvas person suggested that I stay with leather. he present leather chafe guards came with this boat and I have no idea how old they are. The canvas is in very good shape so I don't think they can be that old My last boat had vinyl and I had no problem after several years. Oh well, I'll probably stick with the leather. Thanks guys...

Had an identical situation with leather exposed to the sun. I'm thinking some sort of UV (suntan lotion???) protection could be worked into the leather from time to time to extend the life. Never heard of one though.
