We, Dave Condon and I, have been trying to ask you where you got your "Auto release cleat", (in the Rudder "Shear Pin" for H 26 string). What is the part number and where did you get it?? (please)Thanks Tom (Dave C. too)
I checked into the auto release cleat available through:http://www.clamcleat-rope-cleats.com/speciali.htmbut this is designed for only 1/4 inch line. I'm wondering if this is the one Bill used or not and if the size is adequate. I also emailed the company and referred them to this site and told them they should make a larger one for Hunters......they had no immediate plans to do so. Hey Bill...... you there?
We too checked on the "net" for places to order one. Finally got JSI to order some in for stock. $17.00. Yes you do need a smaller line for it to work. We attached a 1/4" line to the rudder pull down and use that when cleated.snewman@jsisail.com is where we ordered it. Distributed by Sea-Dog in USA.
Bill,I have seen the one you mentioned and wondered if it would work. please advise under what conditions you have used it as I had some question about the 1/4 line thickness as to it being enough. I had mentioned this little rascal in an earlier post and Mark Kissel was kind enough to mention the one which is the same I can rember correctly. Years ago, someone made a larger one that I had seen but probably discontinued it a long time ago during the mideval times when the knights were jousting. Let me know about the sailing conditions you have used the 1/4 lin auto release cleat. It is extremely important to us.Crazy Dave
Bill,Thanks! I've used JSI before. So what was their part number for it?Like I said, I have seen one in the API catalog and as I recall the price was around $27. I'll check what the line size is and post it when I find out (with the P/N). Were you able to use the existing holes where the original cleat was mounted, or did you have to redrill? Thanks again.Tom
We are still sailing the driveway, just took delivery on Jan 10. We installed the cleat forward of the existing cleat because there are times when we will use that one. (ie holding the rudder UP)We tested the release mechanism manually and seems to work fine. But we won't know for sure until we test it in the water. Hopefully next week. The part is a CL 257, item # SEA002570 at JSI.
OK, the cleat I was talking about is also for 3/16 - 1/4 " line and the outfit is APS (Annapolis Performance Sailing, Md) 1-800-729-9767 and the P/N is C257 $18.60. Bill, you must have tiller steering? I have wheel steering that has little/no room forward of the stock cleat.....oh well, guess I'll have to figure something out.Later, Got to go Skiing.....Tom
