Bilge wall crack

I have been looking at a C-30, 1983, brocker handled, that I would like to make an offer on, prior to a survey. On the forward wall of the bilge, above the inlet hose from forward, there is a five inch wide vertical crack, about 1/16 inch wide. The brocker suggest that it is a result o of two dissimiliar materials coming together at that point, namely, lead and plywood. There appears to be no water seeping through. Has anyone seen anything like this. I would appreciate your thoughts. The boat, otherwise, as near as I can see, without an out of water survey is very, very clean and well taken care of. Thanks everyone for your help glen

That wall not structural

A lot of owners of these earlier C30s knock out that bilge wall in order to inspect the block of wood that is behind it. Under the compression post is a block of wood that gets soaked and rots allowing the stress of the compression post to crush it and cause the entire rig to sink an inch or so. With a big crack in that wall it is almost guaranteed that water has gotten in there from a wet bilge and soaked that block. The good news is that it is not a very difficult repair. Instructions are included in the link below. If you haul the boat for a survey the yard could pull the mast and replace the block and then replace that forward bilge wall. The cost can be deducted from the asking price.
