Bilge Pumps

I need to replace the bilge pump in my 1982 Hunter 27. What is a good choice? Currently, the pump that is in there is an Attwood Guardian 500 GPH but I read it's only supposed to be used for boats 20 ft. and under. Is this bilge pump ok to use with this boat?

Pump size.

Don, a 500 gph pump is small for an H27. For one thing they pump nowhere close to their rating. Has to do with hose size and elevation to the thu-hull. Atwood is OK but I like Rule. My Rule 2000 is old and I did replace the float switch but it marches on.Keep the Atwood and add at least a 1000 gph. On the new one put the switch on a 1/2" thick mounting. The new pump will only come on in an emergency. Both should be wired directly to the batteries.
