Dear Hunter 27 Owners (75-84) Just bought a beautiful 27'(1984) and after first sea trial found a small amount of water in the forward bilge. Problem is that the bilge is only about 4" deep and most submersable, automatic bilge pump are 4" or higher in size. Have any of you found a way to install a pump that will do the job and fit this space? Thanks.

My 27 has a float switch and a bilge pump

in it. Yes, it is shallow, but the wiring goes into a very inexpensive float switch and bilge pump. The pump is red, white and blue and is only about 3 inches tall. It does pump a lot of water in a hurry, as I found out when I accidentally left a hose on that ran water onto the sole of my boat about two years ago. It kept up with the hose flow and maintained a level of about 2 inches of water, but no more. Pretty remarkable, I thought.

Rule Pumps

I have an automatic (comes on every 2 minutes) pump by Rule that fits. They sell them at most marine stores; its the red/white/blue round one. It avoids having to use a separate float switch, which I found leaves 2 inches of water in the bilge, which sloshes when heeling. They cost about $35, more than the non-automatic ones ($15), but they work well.
