I currently have the bilge pump hooked up to the fused switch panel. The float is hooked directly to the #1 battery. Is this the best way to have it set up?
Having your bildge pump hot wired to a battery bank is the way to go. I have mine to the engine bank since I use it the least. You still want the bildge pump to have a breaker, but it might be more efficient if it could not be affected by the position of the master on the DC panel. On my Hunter336, it is on its own seperate panel.Cheers
It sounds like you are properly wired except you do not mention a fuse. You should have two sources of 12 volts, one through a panel switch(which is also a circuit breaker) and one directly to a battery bank. The wire to the battery bank from the float switch should have an inline fuse. Mine is one of those rubber connectors that pulls apart in the middle to expose the fuse.P.S. If you are down in there adding a fuse holder install a counter while you are at it.
