I just bought a 1974 O'Day 22' that I am very excited about. My question is, is there a place for an automatic bilge pump? I opened the plate on the floor just aft of the keel, and I see what looks like the bilge. However, I can't find any wiring or a pump. Thanks for your feedback. Mike

Just isn't any room

I have a 1973 o'day 22 that I bought some years ago, which has a manual pump mounted in the lazerette. I decided this year that it was time to plumb in a heavy duty automatic bilge pump. After breaking through the wall underneath the cockpit I found that the pan of the boat is fiberglassed to the hull directly under that wall. I finally came to the conclusion that without EXTENSIVE modifications, I was stuck with the manual pump. As for the small amounts of water that find there way into the bilge, I remove it with a $3.00 turkey baster.

there is one in my 22

I have a 1974 oday 22 and there is a pump above the keel- the wires run from the bulkhead under the cockpit - ( this bulkhead is a piece of plywood ) the battery on my boat is located on the starboard side and the wires run to the switch pannel on the same side. - I hope this helps.
