I have a manual bilge pump on my 24 foot sloop. I would like to install an electric automatic bilge pump. Can I somehow tap into the exit hose of the manual pump or do I need to install an additional thu-hull fitting?

Stevieb,

I would use another through hull. On our 27 foot boat we have the manual pump exit on the port side and the electric exit on the stbd. side.

You might want to look at a YouTube video I uploaded not long ago about mounting our bilge pump in our small, deep bilge. My system makes it VERY easy to clean or replace the pump.

It's at; http://www.youtube.com/user/delezynski
4th video down.

Good sailing

Got them back in 1999 or so at West. Not sure about getting them today.

You might right here on SailboatOwners store and search "rail clamp" or look in Defender Marine.

You will need a separate discharge hose to avoid recycling water back into the bilge. A check valve would help prevent significant flowback if a single discharge hose is to be used but they are prone to fouling.
