Howdy, Back again for more answers.Need enlightenment regarding bilge pump.No thru hull or manual pump on board when I aquired boat(76 V-25).Now getting closer to water(hopefully next spring).Scraping and painting interior started(ugh),at least it's getting cooler. Also, ready to rewire.Panel is original three toggle.Would it be to my advantage to replace panel? Is there a standard or code for wire? any advantage to using #14 gauge opposed to #16 gauge stranded.Have been told,no code just tin ends. Please advise.Thankx,popeye.

Wiring

There are really good panels with battery condition gages. I would replace with one of the newer panels and a master "on/off" switch - like Perko. The heavier wire will carry current better. I don't know if color coded wire is available where you are, but defining each circuit sure makes it easier to trouble shoot in the future. Radio Shack used to have labels and clear shrink tube. Some say marine grade wire is a must. Since most Macs have "lamp cord" wire I don't know, but get a good quality wire and tin your connections. I would not visit Harbor Freight for wire or connectors, but these days everything seems to come from China - even some stuff I saw at WM. Best info I saw on this forum had to do with a "messenger wire" - check it out.

do some planning

Get a book on sailboat wiring. It will help a lot to choose the right materials and plan for future expansion. I added another panel to be able to add and separate more systems.
