Bilge pump thru-hull

I was appalled to find that on our 2002 Beneteau Oceanis CC Clipper that the bilge pump thru-hulls are below the water line. Of course, this arrangement is guaranteed to sink the boat in the event of a failure. BTW, this is a French-built model.
Really curious if any other Beneteaus have this incredible design flaw.

Well Boyd, you are really going to be appalled to find out that your raw water intake thru- haul, head thru-hulls, ac thru-hullls, and transponder/speed thru-hulls are all below the water line. Make sure your bilge pump thru hull has an anti-siphon loop...inspect your thru hulls regularly, and if you are nervous about these holes in your hull, close them when leaving her.
