I Changed oil on my Hunter 28 two weeks ago. Some oil got into the bilge. Cleaned most of it out by sponging. Bilge pump stopped working. Could this be from oil in the bilge? Could someone tell me how to determine if I need to replace the bilge pump or, is it from some other cause. If the bilge pump must be removed, please give instructions on replacing.

Use a voltmeter

Turn the bilge pump on or lift the float swith, and check to make sure that you are getting 12 volts to the wires leading to the pump. If so, then your pump and/or float switch may be bad. If not, then the fuse may be blown (fuse should be in the panel but may be in an in-line holder) or the wiring is bad. I doubt the oil did any of this. Also, make sure the pump is not jammed or clogged. MC
