I've already posted this to the Hunter list, so my apologies to those of you who lurk around both spots. I have a Hunter 18.5, and wonder where to put the bilge pump. The inside of this boat is basically made up of a number of not inter-connected compartments, none of which is very large. I would like to install a manual bilge pump just in case something happened that I needed it, but am not sure where exactly it should go. I suspect the best spot would be under the cockpit about 3 - 4 feet forward of the transom with an outlet going to the self-draining cockpit. Any thoughts on this idea? Thanks for any suggestions you might have. Peter K. s/v Katy Kaye

bilge pump

Peter; It has been some time since I sailed the 18.5 but it would appear that you are correct in the location for a bilge. You need to run the discharge through a seperate thru hull fitting on the hull way above the water line. Do not attempt to drain it in the cockpit as any residual trash, etc. will clog the strainer on the cockpit drain. For those not familiar with this boat, this is a closed transom with the cockpit drain on the aft cockpit floor.
