The 1983 Hunter 22 we just purchased doesn't have a bilge pump. Since the bilge is so shallow, what type of bilge pump do you recommend and where do you route the hose to the outside? Any advice would be appreciated.

My bilge is really shallow also

This was installed in mine and it seems to fit well: http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|51|299222|84462|315207&id=84684 I think they have one with a higher flow rate (always a good thing!) with the same size body (which I will get this season). Hose installation would probably be best described by some of the forum members with the your same boat. One tip, if it exits out the side of the hull, have it above the heeled waterline. Manny

Bilge pump

Nancy: I installed a Rule pump under the acess cover below the companionway steps. It's a tight fit but it works fine. The exit for your pump shoud be on the starboard side about 3/4 0f the way back on the hull. You have to work in the starboard sleeping area to hook it up. Let me know if you have any other questions. ck160007@sbcglobal.net

Bilge pump

I mounted mine under the Port-A-Potty. (Cut a 4" dia. Hole access hole under the Head) The hose goes under the port floor board along the keel trunk and the lead blocks to the stern and drains out by the motor mount. This is a lower area in the bilge, and will get more water out. But, the bilge for the most part is dry, and a little hand pump and sponge, works fine.

Bilge Pump - Thanks for replies

Thank you for all the replies. If the measurements work, I'll purchase a Rule pump. The previous owner of our Hunter 22 (fin keel) said he didn't have any problems with water but I still want a pump installed. Until installed a sponge will do.

Nancy, don't throw your sponge away when you get

your pump. ;-) The pump will only draw down to about 1/2" of water anyway. Good Luck!
