No automatic bilge pump installed currently. I use a sponge to clear out the melted cooler water. If I where to instal an auto bilge pump; where would one drain it?

Out The Stern

Pete, I installed an auto pump in the bilge underneath the square portion of the sole that lifts, just beside the dinette table leg. That seems to be the lowest part of the bilge and there's enough space. I can't remember the size and brand of the pump as its been in there about 8 years, but get a pretty good sized one, preferably with a 3-way switch for auto or manual. I ran the drain hose under the sole, through the cabinet under the sink; through the starboard cockpit locker and out the stern. Need to drill a few holes but none of them show except the stern and I used a nylon thru-hull fitting. As far as I know, the pump has never had to cycle in auto mode but I test it periodically to make sure it will. You will still have to sponge the sump out as the pump will not get the last 3/4~1" or so. Dick Vance H-25.5 "Honey Bear"

Starboard Side

When I bought my 25.5 it already had a Rule 800 bildge pump installed in the same place that Dick mentioned. Mine drains to a thru hull fitting on port side. Don't know the installation details as I did not install it. But I can check it out if you like. It also has a manual and automatic switch at the switch panel. I have an inboard so my pump gets pretty good use.

Port Side

The title of my previous post should have read port side. Sorry.

Side Discharge

Pete, A side discharge has the potential for taking on water via the thru hull when the boat is heeled over or in rough waves. That's why there's a screw plug in the forward sink as the sink drains through the side. It would probably be ok if the side discharge is high at the stern. Dick
