Bilge Bottom Blues

I'm having difficulty activating the bilge pump and am wonder if it's
simply the switch or if there's a problem with the pump. If it's the
pump, the only alternative is pulling the tank, right?

Tank? My bilge is just a 3 ft deep opening into the
keel just forward of the engine. Usually the bilge is
a submersible pump with either an internal or external
float switch. OR Are you referring to the fuel tank?

I'm sooooo confused but that's not unusual either!

My fuel tank is in the bilge and, yes, the tank has to come out if
you need to replace an electric bilge pump under the tank. d:^(

I have never been able to get the tank out with the boat in the
water, so you probably have to haul out and get the pressure off the
hull in order to remove the tank.

So, my bilge pump that sits atop my plastic fuel tank loose and flopping around should actually be below my fuel tank?

My pump is an obvious replacement.

A bilge pump should be at the lowest point of the bilge. I
don't know the setup of your boat, but from what I read
here, your bilge pump atop the fuel tank is (almost)
useless.
