Bilge blower

I want to ventilate the bilge with an new blower, so that I may
clear propane should there be a leak. There are two ventilators on
the stern, aft of the coaming. I believe they are both original.
Both ventilators connect to separate 3" hoses. One hose about 18"
long attaches to a molded channel at the stern, which appears to run
into the keel sump though I can't really tell. The other hose
reaches into the engine compartment under the cockpit sole. The old
blower that I removed was attached to the second hose, going under the
cockpit sole, and although that hose is long enough to reach the
bilge, it does not seem possible to run it past the shaft and into
the sump. It looks to me as though the blower should be attached to
the first hose which connects to the molded channel. The Vega
instruction book is not very clear on this. Is my supposition correct?
Thanks for your help. Craig

Hi Craig

The ventilator that has the pipe going to the bilge originally had a
bilge-blower attached. Ensure it is "sparkless". Most have now stopped
working after 30 odd years!

My Vega (1331, former gas engine) has only one rear vent in the
center of the stern. It services the bilge blower ... which still
works! Were the "two-vent Vegas" the Diesel models?

Hi

Yes the two vent systems were Series II and III Vegas. Series I with
petrol engine had the single vent in the middle of the transom.
