I am rewiring my boat completely and I have a question. This boat will have two separate electrical systems, the engine system and the house system. The engine system has a dedicated starting battery and the house system is two deep cycle batteries. The two systems are separated completely. It is a gasoline engine and requires a bilge blower. Should power to the bilge blower be supplied from the engine system, or the house system?

When you turn on your battery switch

For either the house or the engine you should be able to run the bilge blower because in either case you will have ignition sources. As an answer to the previous post my starting battery is a group 24 and my house batteries are group 31 all AGM.

Basic DC Wiring Diagram

The Bilge Blower is usually wired from a fuse & switch or circuit breaker in the House Panel, as supplied from the House Battery Bank. Where batteries are separated into House & Engine loads, only the Engine Start circuit is supplied from the Engine Battery. Gas Engine

The original poster states that he has a gasoline engine. IMHO this calls for wiring different than with a diesel. If it were mine, I would wire the blower into the starter switch circuit so that the blower would come on before the ignition button is engaged. The wiring sequence would be: battery - ON/OFF switch - keyed switch - blower - push button ignition. This would insure that the blower is on before the engine is started and remains on until the ingition key is turned off. Roger

You must run

the bilge blower for five minutes before attempting to start the engine. Most of the gasoline fueled boat fires that I hear about occur at the fuel dock after refueling. The odor of gasoline vapors in our marina can be strong two piers over from the boat being refueled from cans. If the companion is open during the refueling vapor could easily fill the bilge. The bilge blower switch should be separate from the engine ignition system.
