Bildge odor

I am fighting an odor in the bildge constantly. It's been suggested that I put a cleaning solution or bildge cleaner in every couple of weeks to control it, but I'm looking for a more permanent solution - if there is one. My icebox does empty into the bildge. There are 2 sections. The aft section has a square box containing the pump secured above the bildge. It looks as though the water in this section is supposed to flow to the forward section, but the opening is in the back of the bildge. There is also an opening in the back of the forward bildge. It just seems as though I get stagnent water in these two sections and then a bad odor. Any suggestions or explanation of how this system works would be appreciated.

Clorox

We just dump in some Clorox every week. Kills odor and growth.

I suggest both you and Bradley read

the article called "Boat Odors Aren't All in Your Head," which you'll find in the Reference Library in the Head Mistress forum. It explains in detail why bilges stink, how to cure the problem...and why pouring bleach into it repeatedly is a bad idea.
