I was replacing a blown fuse in my 12v aux. on the main breaker panel and discovered the antenna wire for my stereo was neatly wrapped around the mass of wires behind the panel. No wonder I couldn't get any stations clear! Now I brought the wire out and reception is clearer but not good. What can I do to get still better reception?

Radio Reception

You can buy a VHF/FM splitter and connect your radio coax antenna to the VHF antenna on top of the mast. It worked for me. This will only improve the FM band. Nothing you can do for the AM.

Will VHF transmission fry the FM radio front end?

Has anyone used the splitter described in Lauren's post? The marine VHF frequencies are around 155MHZ. FM radio is around 100MHZ. The splitter has to have enough frequency selectivity so that if you transmit VHF at 25 watts, very little of the transmit power is sent to the FM radio receiver. If too much power gets through the FM radio will be ruined.

I'm on my fourth season with the splitter

tying my Jensen Fm to the VHF antenna with no problem with either unit.
