Has anyone worked out the average fuel consumption for a Vega fitted
with the Beta engine? (litres/hour)

We just put 12 hours on our Beta on a trip to Martha's Vinyard. I
topped off the tank with three U.S. gallons which brought the level
up vey high, in fact higher than when we had started the trip. I am
not keeping exact track--per ounce--but I am reasonably confident
that one U.S. quart per hour is a pretty good figure. I can give you
more info about r.p.m. and prop size and speed if you would like it.

Hi All

Just spent the last 2 / 3 weeks at the IFR in The Baltic. Trip to and
from Eckenforde was mostly using the engine and averaged about one (1)
litre an hour.

Mike Freeman returned from the IFR in Marstarnad in 2004 and used the
engine for nearly 750 miles and obtained a better consumption thatn the
one litre per hour.

Cheers

Frank,
I'm considering replacing my Volvo with the Beta, and would appreciate all of the operational details. Makes good reading for a techno geek.
Thanks,
Pat

Hi Pat

Just spent 14 days in The baltic in a Vega with a Beta and must say I
was veryhappy we had it. Most of teh time was blazing sunshine and very
little wind. Kept to about one litre an hour for the whole trip and
never dropped under 5 knots.

Cheers

I just did 20 hours in my vega from Lowestoft to Grimsby, with no wind and
calm sea. Beta engine and folding prop. It also worked out at about 1
litre per hour, even though for some of it we were screaming along trying to
catch the tidal restrictions for the marina at the far end. Not sure how
fast through the water, as I don't have a log, but I expect about 5.5 knots.
