We ran aground yesterday and the rudder broke off at the post. what is the best way to get this replaced? how much should we expect this to cost? We still have the rudder.
You may want to post on www.huntertwentyeightfive.com for specific owner experience , including at least one rebuild of the rudder and lots of info on the need to upgrade the plywood support under the nylon bearing assembly just under the rudder quadrant.
I'm very surprised you broke the rudder post and not just bent it, as I recall it is about 2-3/8 or 2 1/2" diameter 1/4" thick stainless. It may also have damaged the hull at the rudder tube exit point. On the shoal draft boat the rudder is the same depth as the keel. t he fin keel version's 5'-2" draft protects the 4' rudder.
