My refrigerator/freezer needs to be defrosted every couple of weeks due to persistent air leaks. Is it OK to defrost the freezer by putting hot water over the ice (covering the metal plates) to melt it?
Yes that is how we suggest you do it. Check around your opening for air leaks. The box should not require defrosting every couple of weeks. It should not need to be defrosted more than once every six weeks if the lids are sealing properly and there are no other opening into the box.
