i just bought a 1984 catalina 27 . it's in very good shape. although the forsail has some rust type staining , maybe mold, mildew from not being used too often . whats the best way to clean ? is pressure washing too aggressive ?

If it's a stain, I'm not sure pressure washing
would help. You can try Oxi-Clean and see if that makes a difference. Dissolve a couple scoops (comes with the Oxi-Clean) in a half a bucket of warm water and use a soft brush.

Not pressure-washing...
Don't think pressure washing would be a good idea, they have enough pressure to do some serious damage to hard surfaces... Have a friend who swears by "Oxy-clean"; says it'll get anything out... uses it as a paste by mixing a good amount with boiling water and smearing it over the stained area...

Try Oxi-Clean
I just used oxi-clean on my c22 sails and was very happy
. It removed the mildew and made the sails whiter but didn't really touch the rust. I used a couple of cups in a very large trash barrell and held the sails down with a large rock and let them soak over night.
