1986 Catalina 30 in need of interior cushions recovering. 16 of the 19 years were spent in upper midwest, so cushions were in dry garage all winter. The foam looks to be in good shape. Do I really have to replace foam?? I would imagine that there are outfits that make the upholstry standard for our Cat 30. Any suggestions for this SW Florida area sailor?

A good upholster..

Galen, Many Catalina owners have gone through this project at some point. I just completed mine 2-months ago.I recommend going to a discount fabric store finding the fabric ($10-$16 a yrd.would be a good price)you have an advantage with the foam still intact, and the fab. store can help you determine how much fab. you'll need. Then find a good upholster, and get an estimate. I had eight various interior cushions sewn, four with contrast welting,my upholster charged a flat $40. per cushion.Keep in mind we have some great upholsters in N.C. Florida might be alittle higher. with my fabric I think I spent around $500.and they look great.A few brave souls will try it themselves or have their wifes atempt it.I wanted them done right. Good Luck to you.M

Interior Cushions

I just got mine done and it cost me $1200. to have a local upholsterer do it. I got the fabric fo $10. a yard and I reused my foam. It took 30 yards for him. If you reuse your foam take it out and put some rug cleaner/deoderizer on it to get any ligering odors. I have a 1986 C30 and I had 17 cushions including the little pillow forward. I am quite pleased with mine. I cosidered a Fla. company that would make me a set with form and all for about $2400. Catalina wanted about $3K for a set. The picture is of my cushions ready to go to the boat.
