Hi All,
I want to install a fire port on the wooden engine cover in my 2003 Catalina 36. I'm looking for placement advice: would it be better on the top of the cover, behind the companionway steps? (For this, I'd have to cut through the formica too). Or would it be better on the face of the cover, directly behind a lower step? Thanks for your input.

Just off the top of my head I would not put it on the top. If you have a fire the heat will go up right into your fire port. Might get a little toasty trying to put an extinguisher into the hole. I have had 3 different boats, and each fire port was on the side.

Same as for Hunter. Low down for a cooler location and out in the open for easy access.
